The 1,075MW Seagreen Offshore Wind Farm is joint venture between TotalEnergies and SSE Renewables. It is located 27km off the coast of Angus in the North Sea and will be Scotland’s largest and the world’s deepest offshore wind farm, when complete. The 114 Seagreen wind turbines will provide enough green energy to power more than 1.6 million homes, equivalent to two-thirds of all Scottish homes.

Reece Safety Products were approached by Seagreen Wind Energy Ltd to quote for the lockout equipment for the turbines and substations initially in early 2021. The initial quote was refined in September 2021 and included over 4,000 brass safety padlocks and 120 lockout boxes. We applied the knowledge and experience gained in the supply of such orders to make the specifying and ordering process relatively painless for the client and error-free.

Our brass safety padlocks have the key number on them as standard. Additionally, the locks for Seagreen were engraved with identification codes which allow for quick and easy recognition of which area/user the locks relate to. As an additional layer of safety Reece Safety Products hold records of the key numbers supplied, preventing accidental duplication of a safety lock on site.

Safety lockout boxes are ideal for group lockout situations by ensuring that only when all of the secondary keys are returned to the box and in position can the responsible person on site open the lockout box, using the control key, and return all the lockout keys. They provide ease of management of vital safety on busy sites with multiple operatives. The lockout boxes for Seagreen were also engraved for ease of placement and key tracking.

For this project lead times were of paramount importance and Reece Safety worked with Seagreen Green Wind Energy Ltd to ensure that we were able to fulfil the phased delivery to schedule. The delivery was tight and we managed to expedite 400 locks through to meet the project deadlines.

Reece Safety Products are very proud to be a supplier both to the Renewables sector and to such an exciting and prestigious offshore wind farm project.
