Parc Adfer is an Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) located in Deeside, North Wales.

The Combined Heat and Power Plant (CHP) accepts 200,000 tonnes of residual waste a year to produce both electricity and heat.

The facility produces enough energy to power more than 45,000 homes and businesses.

David Cottis, Operations Manager, contacted Reece Safety in early 2021. He was organising the annual outage and, in light of the Covid-19 restrictions in place at the time, it was felt that the location of the existing permit office would make adhering to social distancing difficult. As the permit office was on the 5th floor David also felt that having an external permit office would save time. With approximately 100 additional contractors due on site, David contacted Reece Safety for details of the contents and availability of our Portable Permit Office.

The Portable Permit Office is a 24’ x 9’ vandal proof site office container, weighing 4000kg. It is delivered to site fully equipped with a range of lockout boxes , card safes , 200 brass padlocks , electrical , mechanical and valve lockout equipment making it ideal for site setup, re-fit or maintenance.

As well as the benefits of not requiring the contractors to go into the main site offices, with the additional deep cleaning that Covid-19 regulations would have required as a result, David commented that it was also useful to be able to organize the portable permit office well in advance of the outage and to know that everything was in place.

David commented that delivering and siting of the Portable Permit Office went smoothly and it was useful to have it on site a few days before the outage to allow the set up of PC’s and the printer. The permit office worked well and the inclusion of fifteen Type 2 lockout boxes, which come with one control lock and 7 secondary, was of particular benefit for this outage. So much so that David is now in the process of ordering some of these lockout boxes for the site permit office.

Overall David found the ordering, delivery and removal of the permit office worked smoothly and easily and he will be using the portable permit office again for future outages and would recommend it to anyone needing a temporary permit office on site.
